IT support and services
There are a number of IT services that you can access to support your research project.
These include:
Zenith and Dawn are two of the UK's fastest artificial intelligence supercomputers, built by the University of Cambridge, in partnership with AMD, Dell Technologies, and Intel.
Altmetric tracks the attention research outputs receive online. This includes tracking mainstream media sources, social media sources and policy documents.
Instead of buying or sharing a computer to run your research, you can use cloud computers to process data and run code. This can help you get results much faster, without investing in your own IT infrastructure. It's particularly useful for research projects with short-term or intensive computing needs.
The University provides access to cloud research through Amazon Web Services (AWS). You can purchase AWS through Jisc, which acts as a reseller for the University.
Cambridge Research Computing Services also offers cloud services.
The Research Data Management team can offer support and guidance on:
There is also a network of Data Champions - volunteers who can offer advice about data management.
Dimensions allows you to analyse connected information from a wide range of funding bodies, including publications, conference abstracts, grants, patents, clinical trials and more.
Elements is the University’s research information management system. Cambridge researchers use Elements, sometimes referred to as Symplectic Elements, to collate, share and report their research activity in one place.
This includes publications and other research outputs, datasets, grants and funding, teaching and professional activities such as prizes, collaborations, and committee memberships.
You will also use Elements to deposit your research outputs to Apollo, the University’s institutional repository.
The university offers a range of advanced platforms for computationally intensive research.
The University Human Tissue Tracker is a web application and data store to assist the process of recording and tracking human tissue samples.
You can use Research Dashboard to view budget information for your grant, and projects within your grant.
It will show you information like your overall budget, your total expenditure, how much of your budget is left.
Research Computing Services has a team of research software engineers who can help with designing and producing software for your project.
Worktribe is the Universities research grant management system for costing and pricing research projects. You can also use it to manage research contracts and activating your award.
