Writing a sustainability statement
If you're applying for funding from UKRI, you may be asked to provide a statement that explains how you're going to address environmental sustainability considerations.
This statement could be included:
- within the Responsible Research and Innovation part of your application
- as a separate section
What to include in the statement
Your statement needs to show that you've thought about how your research project embeds environmental sustainability principles throughout its:
- aims
- objectives
- operations
- research outcomes
The statement should answer the following questions:
- How is environmental sustainability approached by the research project?
- Are environmental sustainability considerations embedded at the different stages of the research project?
- How does your research project support the University’s commitments as signatory of the Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice, and the work of the Sustainable Research Sub-Committee, reporting to the Research Policy Committee?
- How does your research project align with host organisation sustainability plans and policies at University, School or Department/institution levels? Read more about the University’s environmental sustainability and climate frameworks and governance arrangements
- Have you taken under consideration your School or Department/institution’s environmental sustainability plans i.e. Local Environmental Sustainability Plans or Sustainability/Climate Committees?
