Export Control Classification Guidance

If you believe that export controls may apply to your work you need to search the Consolidated Strategic Export Control List to establish whether your research is subject to any specific controls. This process is known as ‘classification’. 

The Consolidated List is a pdf document and can be searched using a word search approach. Guidance on when and how to undertake classification, how to make a record of that process and how to search the consolidated list is provided in the documents below.

IMPORTANT: If there are significant changes to your research project, it is your responsibility to assess whether the research needs to be reclassified to establish whether the revised project is subject to export controls. For queries, please email researchgovernance@admin.cam.ac.uk.
